What are complex numbers?

A complex number is any number or element of a complex vector space over the real numbers. It is denoted by the Greek letter Χ. They can be thought of as complex numbers that are too complicated for our human brain to deal with. We can’t add, multiply, or subtract them, so they represent things like distances, velocities, accelerations, or any number of things. If you had to write down how the average force of an airplane going 15,000 feet per second would feel in your hand, it might be a complex number, like some kind of inverse relationship between velocity and pressure. On an experimental plane, a bunch of test data would be fed into the cockpit’s computers.

I think the following video is a good way to introduce this topic in an interactive way. It’s longer than my comment above, but you may learn a lot. It was obvious to me that I had to learn Maths before High School. I studied it in school in Grade 7, but the questions were made as easy as possible for an 8-year-old, and in hindsight they really were. Not having the opportunity to study Maths at my college level, I had to study Maths in High School. It took me about 3 years to pass the matriculation. At the end of High School, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I had a very high score for Maths in the National exams.
