Consignment Accounts Principles of Accounting
Consignment accounts are used in a consignment arrangement, where one party (the consignor) sends goods to another party (the consignee) for sale on the consignor’s behalf. The consignee does not own the goods but takes possession of them and sells them to customers. The consignee pays the consignor for the goods sold, minus an agreed-upon commission and any expenses incurred in the sale. The consignor maintains ownership of the goods until they are sold. Consignment accounts track the inventory, sales, and payments related to consignment arrangements.
