Sindh Class 10 English Notes Chapter 21 How to Do Things

The party was arranged as it was Shahnaz’s birthday and she wanted to celebrate it along with her friends and relatives.

Shahnaz along with her dearest friend talked about the menu and decided to serve kababs, samosas, sandwiches, fruit-chat, sweetmeat and cake with the tea to the guests at the party. They wanted to prepare kababs, sandwiches and fruit-chat at home and the rest of the eatables they would buy from the market.

Shahnaz and her friend planned some games as well to entertain the guests such as passing the parcel, treasure hunt and musical chairs. The basic aim of these games was to provide fun and laughter to the guests at the maximum so it would become a memorable party for all.

Shahnaz father brought a big marvelous cake for Shahnaz on which her name was written along with a wish for a happy birthday.

Riding a bicycle is a joy, when one is young as the individual is active, energetic and enthusiastic at that time period of life.

Shahnaz was happy at the end of the party as everything happened according to the expectation of Shahnaz and all the guests had enjoyed the party at the fullest.

This joy vanishes all of a sudden, when the cycle gets punctured on the way.

The best kit for mending the puncture must contain a wrench, a piece of old cycle tube, a pair of small scissors, sandpaper, a colour pencil and sticking solution.

As soon as the punctured part of the tube goes under the water, one can see the air bubbles coming out of the small hole with a hissing sound just similar to that of a snake.

The one who wants to fix the problem of puncture perfectly, he has to use sandpaper in order to make the tube rough by rubbing it.

Shahnaz and her friend arranged some games to entertain the guests of the birthday party and one of them was the parcel game. The parcel was prepared quite technically. A piece of toffee was put in a small box which was then wrapped with many layers of coloured paper. Each layer of the parcel concealed a slip of paper which bore one of such commands like: ‘sing a song’, ‘crow like a cock’, ‘bleat like a goat’, ‘bray like a donkey.’ The parcel was to be passed from one guest to the other, whosoever got the parcel had to remove only one layer of the wrapping and get the punishment that fell to her lot. The one who got the parcel last would ultimately receive the prize in the form of a toffee for winning the parcel game.

As the name indicates “Treasure Hunt” game is played by hiding treasure in the form of a small or big item such as candy, toffee etc. All the participants have to find the hidden treasure and the game would end when all the hidden items are found by the participants of the game. In Treasure Hunt Shahnaz and her friend hid small packets of sweets wrapped in paper at different places in the room and the guests had to find them everywhere. The game would come to end till all the treasures were found.

The process of mending a puncture is not a difficult one, it just needs skill and the proper tools to fix the problem. First of all, one should get some water in a large shallow pot. Then he has to take one edge of the tyre off the rim and take out the tube to inflate it. After that, the inflated tube has to be dipped into the pot of water bit by bit. As soon as the punctured part of the tube goes under water, air bubbles will easily be seen coming out of the small hole with a hissing sound similar to a snake. The person who is busy in mending a puncture has to mark the spot with a coloured pencil. The whole of the tube is tested in this way, and thus all the punctured parts of the tube have to be marked. The deflated tube is left to dry. Then the person has to take the sandpaper and rub the tube at the punctured spot, till the surface gets rough. Then he has to cut a piece from the old tube according to the size of the puncture. The surface should be made rough with the help of sandpaper. After that, the sticking solution must be applied some to the tube and some to the piece of rubber by rubbing it with the finger. After sometime the solution dries a little and then the person has to place the piece of rubber on the puncture and must press it tight so it sticks to the tube. In this way, the puncture has been mended. Finally, the person should put the tube back into the tyre, pump air into it and then he is ready to enjoy a perfect ride on the bicycle.

The process of mending a puncture at a bicycle repair shop is a bit different from the one that is done by someone using a kit for mending it. At the repairing shop, a kind of half solid rubber solution is applied to the punctured part of the tube. It is then heated at a certain temperature for sometime in a machine which is a sort of press. The solution melts and sticks to the tube so that both are inseparable.
