Wren and Martin’s memorable work High School English Grammar and Composition now appears in two editions. One is the deluxe edition, which is illustrated in full colour, and the other is a generic edition that does not reflect.
The contents of the book, where requested, have been further updated. In particular, it has been deemed necessary to review some of the material in the chapters which deal with adjectives, active and passive sounds, subjects and genres. Appendix I, which deals with American English, has been extended. Appendix II has been replaced with a new set of tests covering key areas of grammar.
It was in 1972 that the shrewd Mr Shyam Lai Gupta got permission from the Manikji Cooper Education Trust to revise the book and ordered me to do a complete review.
