Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) the Model of Tolerance
Summary: Tolerance is an equitable attitude toward people who are different from us. It is a great virtue and is embodied by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He forgave his worst enemies and is described in the Quran as “Rahmatul-Lil-Alameen”. It means “a mercy unto the whole of mankind and the universe”.
His tolerance and kindness can be observed from the event when the Quraish exiled the Prophet (PBUH) and his tribe, Banu Hashim, for preaching Islam in Makkah. The Muslims lived difficult lives for three years. Despite this, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) remained patient and tolerant, and he never considered retribution. He was kind to the disbelievers (including Abu Sufyan and his wife, who were his worst enemies) even after conquering Makkah, forgiving them and instructing the Muslim army to treat everyone with kindness and respect.
In a similar event, the Holy Prophet’s reaction towards the Jewish Rabbi, Zaid Ibn Sanah’s premature demand of repayment of his loan inspired the disbelieving man to accept Islam. Although the Prophet (PBUH) was not a defaulter, he still treated the Rabbi with tolerance and patience.
His tolerance was immeasurable, and aggression was never a part of his nature.

In the Holy Quran, Allah has guaranteed those who are patient that He will give them reward without measure.
